For the first callout for the year 2023, the Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU) received a total of 178 applications from across the country.

At the October 2023 National Executive (NE) meeting, the following candidates were selected to receive one of the fifteen $5,000 CEIU National Scholarships:

• Sneha Bansal, daughter of Meera Bansal, member of CEIU Local 20937

• Martin Watson, member of CEIU Local 70704

• Andrew Alvarado, son of Yiselle Alvarado, member of CEIU Local 70705

• Sarah Ahmad, daughter of Yasser Ahmad, member of CEIU Local 556

• Manjot Mann, member of CEIU Local 50769

• Olivia Fells, daughter of Rachel Langford, member of the CEIU Local 80221

• Jayme Humphrey, daughter of Kimberly Humphrey, member of the CEIU Local 60260

• Donya Mashkuri, daughter of Sudabeh Mashkuri, member of the CEIU Local 645

• Brianna Carson, daughter of Melissa Carson, member of the CEIU Local 601

• Sobit Asadullah, son of Zulfiya Mirzoeva, member of the CEIU Local 30851

• Alicia Kla, daughter of Mélanie St-Onge, member of the CEIU Local 10469

• Breagh MacDermid, Marcie Dawn MacDermid, member of the CEIU Local 80226

• Lucy Lafrance, daughter of Elizabeth King, member of the CEIU Local 534

The CEIU National Executive wishes to congratulate all the winners of the first scholarship callout for 2023 and also would like to thank all of the applicants for submitting their application and necessary documents.

But remember, a second callout will be going out shortly, offering five (5) equity scholarships as follows:

• 1 scholarship offered to a person that identifies as Indigenous
• 1 scholarship is offered to a person that identifies as a Member with Disabilities.
• 1 scholarship offered to a person that identifies as LGBTQ2+
• 1 scholarship offered to a person that identifies as Racialized
• 1 scholarship offered to a person that self-identifies as a woman.

The five-equity scholarship will be awarded on a merit basis.  Should there be no application received for any of the equity groups listed above, the scholarship(s) will be added to the equity group(s) that has received the most applications.
