Let's stand up for equality, justice and human dignity
Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10th – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year, Human Rights Day marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being -- regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

From a Human Rights perspective, I would like to express my, and the members of (CEIU) Canada Employment and Immigration Union’s sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones due to hate crime, specifically against Women, LGBT2Q+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Two-Spirit, Queer and additional identities) community, Racially Visible and First Nations/Métis/Inuit, not forgetting the injustice and discrimination faced by people who have a visible or invisible Disability.
Human rights principles hold up the vision of a free, just, and peaceful world. I am writing to acknowledge that as a society we should not accept injustice against Human Rights in any shape or form. Please take a moment to reflect in prayer or thought, for these victims, their families and all other victims in recent times that have been killed or wounded. Thank you!
